Active Reading

 

To improve your reading comprehension and your ability to remember, practice active reading and studying strategies.

 

An active reader is involved before reading, during reading, and after reading.

 

Before reading

 

P     preview and predict

 

L     locate what you already know and what you need

to know

       Set specific purposes for reading

       Predict what information will be important to learn

       Predict how that information will be organized

 

During reading

 

A add information gained from reading to what you

    already know, to notes, to graphic organizers

 

      Add to the text:  underlining, notes in the margin,

      maps

 

After reading

 

N       Note what you know:  review, retell, recall
